Member Bios

Mina

Mina Šuković is a Queens-based flutist and musicologist originally from Belgrade, Serbia. She earned her master's degree from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, where she studied with the esteemed flutist Judith Mendenhall. As a soloist, Mina performed J. Ibert's Flute Concerto with the Queens College Orchestra after winning the Concerto Competition. She has performed at prestigious venues including LeFrak Concert Hall, Alice Tully Hall, DiMenna Center for Classical Music, as well as various churches and other performance spaces.

Mina is a member of the New York Flute Quintet, chamber music group Mina and fellow flutists established during their studies. As a versatile musician, Mina is currently teaching in various music schools, and serving as an assistant choir conductor at the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Manhattan.

Mina holds a bachelor's degree in classical music performance from the University of Arts in Banja Luka where she studied under professor Sonja Miletić, and both bachelor's and master's degrees in Musicology from the University of Belgrade in Serbia.

Christian

Born and raised in Long Island, New York, Christian Midy is a devoted flutist currently pursuing a master's degree in the Instrumental Arts Program at Bard Conservatory, studying with Tara Helen O'Connor, a flutist and member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. He previously earned his bachelor's degree in flute performance at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College under the tutelage of the esteemed Judith Mendenhall, the principal flutist of the American Ballet Theater Orchestra.

Christian's musical achievements include being a two-time finalist in the ACSM Concerto Competition and receiving prestigious honors such as the Chamber Music Live Award and the Discimus ut Serviamus Award, which he has won twice. He also attended the Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts for two years and the Long Island Flute Festival, further honing his skills and expanding his musical horizons.

Christian has had the opportunity to perform on renowned stages, including Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, where he performed with the Bard East/West Ensemble during the China Now Music Festival. He has also performed with the Bard Conservatory Orchestra in the Sosnoff Theater at the Fisher Center and with ensembles such as the Queens College Orchestra and Opera Orchestra in Lefrak Hall. Christian's artistry and passion for flute performance continue to drive his aspirations, solidifying his presence as a dynamic and versatile musician.

Marisa

Marisa Dolcimascolo is a native New Yorker and talented flutist, proud to be a member of the New York Flute Quintet. Currently pursuing her Master of Music in Flute Performance at Queens College Aaron Copland School of Music, under the esteemed Judith Mendenhall,  Marisa brings a wealth of experience and passion to her artistry. A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Binghamton University, she holds dual degrees in Flute Performance and Chinese Studies.

Marisa's notable musical achievements include being a finalist in the ACSM Concerto Competition and receiving the prestigious John M. and Marcella M. Keeler Scholarship in Music from Binghamton University. She has performed as principal flutist with the Binghamton University Symphony Orchestra and as a substitute flutist for the Protestra Orchestra in NYC and currently performs with the Queens College Symphony Orchestra. Her performance highlights also feature the premiere of her own composition, Around Sound, and a collaborative interpretation of Chinese folk music for the Confucius Institute’s Mid-Autumn Festival celebration.

With a dynamic blend of technical skill and artistic depth, Marisa contributes to the quintet’s mission of bringing inspiring performances to the NYC metropolitan area.

Jason

Jason Altre is a New York–based flutist and musician. A Queens College graduate, he holds a bachelor’s degree in music performance with a minor in music production. It was at the Aaron Copland School of Music where Jason studied with the accomplished Judith Mendenhall, who aided him in becoming a consistent finalist in the school’s concerto and Bach competitions. 

 

In addition to his passion for flute playing, Jason enjoys all things music. He is an active composer, with projects ranging from songwriting to film scoring. He is also a member of a pop rock band, where he plays the bass guitar.

 

With his diverse musical background, Jason brings to the quintet a thoughtful and enthusiastic perspective towards music and performance. Along with the quintet, he strives to bring the music to life and to share with the audience the joy of music.

Zoe

Zoe Rabinowitz is in the third year of her undergraduate degree at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, studying under Judith Mendenhall. During her time there, she has been a member of the Queens College Orchestra, Opera, Flute Quintet, Copland Ensemble, and soloist of the Baroque Ensemble.

She was a fellow at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival, ARIA  Academy, and a summer intern at the Flute Center of New York.

 

She has participated in masterclasses with Linda Toote, Brandon Patrick George, Alexa Still, Molly Barth, Donna Shin, Nicolas Duchamp, Francisco Barbosa, and Keith Underwood.
